Tina Turner

Tina Turner

Selling more pop concert tickets than anyone else in the world is a remarkable feat, and one that belongs to a certain Tina Turner. It is little wonder that she is known as the “queen of rock” by her adoring fans. One of the reasons this lady has been loved is that she clearly puts her heart and soul into everything that she does. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee was born in Nutbush, Tennessee back in 1939 and now resides in Switzerland. During her immense career to date, Turner has won Eight Grammys alongside a plethora of other awards. 2 of her smash hits, “River Deep – Mountain High” and “Proud Mary” have also been entered into the Grammy Music Hall of Fame. Turner has been married 3 times so far. Without question it was her relationship with Ike Turner that created the most interesting of headlines. A stormy relationship which lasted over 20 years, until divorce settled things in 1978. Another big-name star was thought to be smitten with Turner. Rolling Stones Mick Jagger hired the singer to support his ill-fated US tour in 1969. Turner later went on to claim that Jagger had stolen many of her dance moves.

Madonna

Madonna

Another superstar in the music industry is of course Madonna. Born Madonna Louise Ciccone in 1958, the American was a leading star in the emergence of MTV during the 1980’s. A strict Catholic upbringing didn’t prevent Madonna from creating some of the raunchiest dance shows seen by music fans. At home on the stage, Madonna’s shows were something completely different from other top musicians at the time. Much of her music has divided opinion, with certain sectors branding it as almost pornographic. This was certainly the case for her super-hit “Like a Virgin”, although Madonna had responded that it was in reference to how something made her feel at the time of writing the song. The star was surprised at the criticism and denied the sexual connotations in the title to be the basis for the song itself.

Like many other show-biz stars, Madonna has had her share of fiery relationships. The most prolific one was when she was married to actor Sean Penn. During this period in her life, both she and Penn were never too far away from the headlines. Madonna has sold more than 300 Million albums since she broke into the music arena, her best known include:

  • Papa Don’t Preach
  • Vogue
  • Crazy For You
